Excuses, Excuses….We are all good at making them!
I have a 10 month old and a 2.5 year old, so I’m pretty busy these days. I could say that having two little ones gives me an excuse to have an messy home, but it does not. I may not be the best cook in the world (still working on this one) or fabulous homemaker, but you will always find my home clean. I strive for excellence – not perfection. It took me a long time to understand the difference between the two and it’s something that I’m still working on daily. You see, I want to be excellent in everything that I do in my life including maintaining a clean and stress-free home.
What does excellence look like in my life ?It means that I work hard to the best of my ability. I getup before my family does while it’s still dark outside and start my day. I use a daily/weekly/monthly calendar to jot down important and mundane tasks that need to get done.
I used to think that my home had to be perfect before a guest could visit and then I had two kids and that just went out the window. I’m so glad that it because it was weighing me down. On the flip side, I think that many women use the excuse of having children to be lazy when it comes to picking up around their home. Have you ever been in someones home and tripped over toys as you entered the front doorway ? Have you ever been in a home where it had a sour smell?
Trust me, I understand that we all have “down days” where toys just don’t get picked up and laundry and dishes seems to pile a mile high. I just think it’s time to start looking deep into ourselves when the “down days” become everyday and then it becomes part of our character (how we identify ourselves).
You see, I’ve learned over the years (still learning) that I can have guests over to my home without it being perfect. I do a quick clean sweep of toys & shoes and check the bathroom to make sure it’s tidy and clean. I will also light a seasonal candle to make my home smell inviting. I want my family and guests to think of my home as a tranquil place and not a disaster zone.
I have attached some great resources for running your home and I hope that you enjoy them. 🙂
